20 would be ideal. I've got a 20" 243 featherweight with dpt. Balances and carrys well in the bush. In fact, it's currently my preferred bush rifle. I'm a confirmed 270 guy and wouldnt go under 20...

Listen to Ryan 19 or 20" I wouldn't go shorter in a .270. The other things you are doing will make this a much more usable rifle that will last you for years. Sent from my CPH2145 using Tapatalk

Probably the most versatile 270 I've had (and I've had one or two) would have been 19" T3, it was nice to point and carry with dpt on it and could still poke 150 LRABs out at 2850 which puts the hurt...

If you want to do it yourself use grinding paste on a felt bob with it in a drill press as Husky said. It is a bit of a long winded process but can be rewarding if you want to add a personal touch....

You can do it yourself, with a simple wooden jig to hold the bolt. Put a standard old school pencil with an eraser tip on it in the drill press and line up your bolt underneath and gently bring it...

I seem to remember back in the seventies, trolling through gun mags, that DIY bolt jeweling was a reasonably common thing. Not all that difficult if you’re a bit handy. Was actually thinking about...
