   Nice. I have done a little bit of surfcasting, so what I say may be bullshit, but you are joining two lines of very different diameters and I would go with a specialist shock leader knot like this:...

    Thats where you're going wrong. You dont actually joins the loops. That would squeeze the line and weaken it. Look it up on Youtube as it is hard to explain how to do it properly...
