The powder that gives the highest velocity in a long barrel will also give the highest velocity in a short barrel, so powder choice is the same as what you'd usually pick.

AngusM by 150 NBT is 2730fps and 165 Speer is 2530. Both with stiff charge of 2206H, dabbled with H335 but 2206H worked better for velocity and temp stability. Have shot a few animals out to 400m...

Yes at a pinch it will work, but a 16" 308 isn't the best tool for the job for 500m shooting, 500m is a loooong way for hunting. On paper it will work energy wise, but wind will be the real kicker...

Not much else you can do! The more I know about longrange shooting the more skeptical I become of these stories. The reality is that yes the odd time people pull of a long shot but unless they have...

Yep, had mate telling me how he shot two deer on the run with his 243 at 600 yds with a non dialing scope and no range finder. I just nodded my head. Worst thing was he actually believed his own...

True. People don't talk about the bad shots they make but at the end of the day, a deer shot in the jaw is a deer shot in the jaw no matter what cartridge you are using. There are probably more deer...

Ok then. I’ve screwed it up a few times. 1. Lost a fallow trophy of a lifetime with a .270, never recovered the animal after days of searching with assistance of a dog. My logic is that on the...

A young red I shot this afternoon. Hit high in the shoulder with a 73gn ELD-M at about 50m. It went through the shoulder blade and through a rib on the way out. Left a nice neat 15mm exit hole as it...

veitnamcam liked post by Shearer On thread : Craft me a bush hunting rifle
To me, shortening a rifle to suppress it is not just about it's length and "handiness" but just as much about it's balance. A 22" barrel with a suppressor on it handles a lot differently to a 16"...

Having owned the gauntlet of bush rifles, from single shots to ars to bolt guns I've settled on my idea bush rifle. I prefer a repeater over a single shot, occasionally a followup shot is reality....
