The Japanese make good rifles out of good steel. A Howa in calibre of choice will, as a rule, make an excellent hunting rifle.

but who would walk around with action open and bolt slapping around??? Would have to be quite careless to not notice a bolt missing after a fall or something.

Can't go wrong with either really, .308 is more versatile and really a more sensible choice for someone starting out imo. Over the 30-30 lever action anyway

I have two T3's - and have never had a problem with the bolt coming out in the bush or anywhere else for that matter. The bolt goes in the rifle as soon as it comes out of the rifle case or...

Big walk today but paid off. First goat taken at 50yrd before handing riffle to my companion to drop its pal before handing the riffle back to me to flatten another goat running at 175yrds. Good fun....
