Having had a 243 for 40yrs in various rifles I'd suggest 18" as your shortage. Reasoning is you can shoot 100grn partition at good speeds for big deer and tahr without having to much speed loss.

Savage. I've brought a weather warrior .243 20yrs ago as a backup and used by other family members. Looks and feels pretty cheap BUT the rifle just shoots, is lightish to carry and just plain works!...

only a 7.5 twist will over spin the lighter projectiles. Had that happen in a 243ackley, anything under 75grn just turned to a grey cloud 10m out! :wtfsmilie:
