Not trying to excuse the mistake but M15 to M14 is surprisingly odd in that if you don't catch it as you screw it up it will butt up tight and sit there pretty convincingly.

should also be pointed out that not all GC gunsmithing is in house. they may even use the gunsmith you normally would even if you buy from GC. not making excuses but its a possibility
