In my experience, once you start seeing erratic velocities you are passed having stableoafs and likely over pressure for that particular load combination in that rifle. Back it off.

Or carry one on each shoulder with slings crossed over your neck. Carry with muzzles forward and down steadied by each hand on barrel just up a little from muzzle. Allows you to carry pack on back...
