    You would also need to fit free wheeling hubs to each wheel to make it viable to tow a 1-2 tonne 4WD. If not there would be far less frictional losses to have it on a trailer I suspect

    If you have one from the 1980's, hold onto it. The oilskin has a much higher thread count than that manufactured today. And they certainly don't rip as easily as one purchased at last years field...
