Pretty well covered by ebf. What I also do is remove the firing pin/spring mechanism from the bolt - not sure whether the Savage lends itself to this. You can then try your brass for bolt closing...

Wow! And yet I am still unsure from the sparse posting from the OP what the exact problem is and what advise is most suited. Even what type of shooting the OP mostly does, or types of firearms...

Also remember 1 full turn of a die will give 71 thou movement so gently gently only fractions required. I also find that when you have a case almost at the right setting after adjusting the die use...

I wouldn't get too worried about the old primer contamination chestnut. Unless your pores are absolutely ouzing gunk and the rounds intend to be loaded for zillions of years it just isn't an issue....
