Re-barrel, keep it in the .308 family. My choice .358 Win for something different and a very under estimated cartridge. Energy delivered at the business end compared to the .308 is quite something....

For that distance 243, 6.5 creed, 7mm08 and 308 will do the job with readily available factory ammo. I'm use my 223 and 6ARC out to 250meters on fallow, withe the magnums for longer distance

If its a dpt non magnum you are running on a magnum rifle, its definitely not suitable no matter how many baffles you run. You will be over pressuring the rear chamber.
