    162 eld-m at 2975fps for bush hunting

Hey fellas, no doubt asked plenty but I’ll give it a shot. Searched countless YouTube vids etc on this projectile and I know it works amazing at range first hand. But who’s shot animals at bush ranges (kaimais) so like 10m at speeds in the high 29’s.
I’ve taken animals at 100-600y but nothing closer. My only concern is projectile blow up and wondering if it’s worth developing another load for bush hunting. Or running some cheap factory ammo to keep it simple. Would far rather run one load to do it all if I was being honest. Any advice is appreciated, launching them out of a 21” 7mmRM
    Cheers

I'd think they'd be a bit explody at that speed upclose. I'd make up a bush load if I was you with a stouter projectile.

Or slow them down by using a minimum book load

Colour the projectile with a black vivid so you don’t mix them up with your full power loads

Sounds like a perfectly legitimate reason to buy another rifle.

If it were me, id just load a bunch at book minimum, quick zero check, ( id not adjust scope to suit, leave it zerod for your developed load)go hunting, if you need to take a shot at more distance then slap some of you developed rounds in and away you go.

I use to run 162 a-max at 3060 and 160accubond at about 2900 as my close up load. I reloaded and used 2gr less for the 160 accubond. Sighted in with the 162 then looked to see where the accubond hit. It was within 1-2” so I called it good. Had no problems with it. Never shot anything close with the a-max.

Personally I'd get a cheaper and blunter projectile for the bush and save those ELDMS for anything longer.
If it's all you have and want to shoot, then as others have said, definitely slow it down at those closer ranges

Thanks for the replys, I think ill look into developing a specific bush load. Was always my initial plan but since selling my 7mm08 im trying to use the rem mag as a do all rifle. Which it will do with a simple close range load.Cheers

Nosler Partition would be my choice.

At the moment , it is almost “ as long as you can find 7 mm projectiles on the shelves”.

I see there is a new Sako blade projectile available in7mm. It is full copper and might work fine in your gun. At least plenty of theses are around now. ( I saw some à the local gun city).

I’d just load ELDX or not even worry as the 162 ELDM should be fine.

I reckon it would be fine. The only place i’ve ever experienced the soft projectile blow up has been on the internet.
