Hah, just found this thread while researching barrel length and hmr. That bullberry test seems to show very little energy drop off with shorter barrels, max speed at 19" but only dropping 150fps at 12", that's less than 1fpe of energy difference!

I'm not wanting to mess with my nice A17 so trying to find a cheap HMR to mess with to check these results. I'm in the same boat with my HMR not really being used as a standing rifle or taking it on walks due to its weight.

Information I found was 15" seemed to be a sweet spot for little loss of velocity verus handling. Always figured I could go to 12" I'd need be. Bit hard to go from 12" upwards though.....
