Thread: 17hmr barrel length ?

Just picked up a new to me 17hmr, it came with a muzzle forward graystone suppressor.
It has a factory length barrel and I guess in my opinion with the suppressor on its quite um.....long.
Is there a length at which a 17hmr reaches maximum velocity like a 22 @ 16" ?
Or do I just need to suck it up and deal with it ? I dont want to sacrifice velocity as that was the whole point of getting a 17hmr.

got too wonder if its worth the cost of getting it chopped and rethreaded if its going to be used primarily in open areas... though it might be easier to negotiate monsoon shields!

3" off factory length hardly seems worth the expense..... might have to look into seeing if an overbarrel type suppressor might help.
Bugger I really like the graystone suppressor. Might just shoot it for a while and see if it's as big of an issue as I imagine it to be

We have a Sako Quad which Dan Hardy chopped and put on and o/b suppressor. Great kit has shot many deer with it as well.
