    18 inch 300 wsm

Anyone running a Tikka 18 inch suppressed 300 wsm
Interested to hear any info on load data average velocity, suitable powders for 168 amax, and what average loss of velocity per inch of barrel experienced.

    Cheers

    I run 20in bbl with 178gr eldm
Have had 18in and went to 20inch on this rifle, I don't see me changing it anytime soon
    The 178s are going 2920fps

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

With the 18in I ran 150s at I think 3100fps or there abouts.
The load in the 20in is deff better, but never tested the heavier proj in the 18in.

At 20in + suppressor it is still handy as in the bush

Based on that I’d say a heap of difference...

Ended up going 20 inch barrel, 64 grains Reloader 17 gave 2950 fps average with the 168 Amax, will try some 178 eld x in the next few days.

What charge is your 2209 load Smiddy?

It's around that 65gr mark, developed nearly a year ago and been a good load, shot over a lab radar cronny, only shot it to 450y

I'm talking about 18" when 10% of your powder might be blasting out the end of your barrel before its burnt.
Can the 308 burn all of its powder inside 18" ?

    ADI catalogue 2010
    308win 24" 175gr AR2208 Max 45.0gr 2690fps
    300WSM 24" 175gr AR2209 Max 65.0gr 3010fps
So, very true, the WSM starts with almost 50% more powder but could someone with quickload estimate how much can be burnt in an 18" barrel ?

    Quickload says:
    97.8% burn in 24" tube
    95.4% burn in 18"

    Thanks MG
    That looks pretty good actually.
I guess the hot gas is still accelerating the bullet over the last six inches for both cartridges.
But 95% of 65gr is still way more than 45gr.
