    223 40gr VMAX

    Gidday,

Are there many on here who have had a play with the 40 gr VMAX in 223?

Got a bull techno block to shoot on with a heap of hares and the odd rabbit. I could just use the 55gr SP factory stuff but I’m keen to have a play and see what an explodey pill doing 3600fps does. Less chance of serious ricochet as well.

    Cheers

I played with them a few years back.

Tried a couple of different powders but settled on Hodgon Benchmark at 26gns and they were travelling between 3500 and 3550 from my T3 (1 in 12) and were a great round for rabbits and hares performing better than expected. Contrary to the norm they also performed in my SL8 with a quick 1 in 7 twist before it was skipped.

40 H VMax AR2219 25.5g 3550 best so far, clover leafs 100M. was a long time ago with a 1/12 Tikka very accurate but not so good in windy conditions.

    26gn bm2 3518 in standard T3 1/12....

I sighted to 1" high at 100m then proceeded to point and shoot about 4-5 rabbits of which nothing was left....
Then I put a 8 twist on it and they wouldn't shoot...

Most accurate projectile I could find or one rifle. 8 twist x bolt. Had a small issue with projectile fragmentation. 1 in every 20 had a shotgun effect

Certainly destroyed the target - my dog would run up all excited then just stand there looking at the carnage before looking at me with the 'you want it you pick it up' face

I can give you some loaded 52grn ELDM doing 3250 to try if you want. 26.5 grns of BM2. You would need to get them before Sunday before I go away for a few weeks.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.
