A 16 inch barreled 243 is going to be very hard on a suppressor, I doubt few powder granules would make much difference among all the screaming exhaust gases. Its not my thing but if I went that way Id be using a DPT or similar with a stainless blast baffle . In the 85/87gr bullet weight 2208 is going to be as good as any and will have a good % burn anyway. Going faster in burn rate will really only loose velocity or you will have to run higher peak pressure for the same speed.
Saying that though if its really is nothing but short range hunting then pretty much any normal 243 combination will work.
My pick would be sierra 85 HPTB in font of some 2208.

Faster than what though? What powder did they recommend for the 87gr weight bullet?
Dropping in bullet weight will benefit from a increase in burn rate but that's the same in any length barrel.

exactly what i'm saying! Glad we agree (very new here so dont want to stand on to many toes). if you are going to use a lighter bullet in a short barrel use a faster burning powder. As I said earlier I would recommend something lighter so about 80grs and the fastest powder they list for a 80Gr monolithic is benchmark 8208. And as the thread said ealier it was for relatively close stuff so the diffrence(if there is one) in velocity would be inconsequential.

My son is currently running 19in T3 with DPT including ss baffle with 95gr Nosler using 43gr 2209. All the stags he has come across are heading back very dead.

I was running W760 over 87 gr HPBT out of an 18" barrel 243. My mates all complained about the muzzle blast and at dusk i would do in everyone night vision with a 3 ft long flash. Ended up with a 20" barrel and a moderator as the 18" one would not shoot. (done too much work, crown and bore damage) This was before I had a Crony so no idea on velocity. Out to 150 mtr nothing would notice a 300 fps loss of velocity.

NB. this muzzle blast was a significant factor in pushing me to develop a Trail boss load using 58 gr Vmax for short range goats etc. (Lever action)
At 22 Hornet type velocities they mushroom nicely (without blowing up) leaving an 1" exit hole and 5 dead goats for 5 rounds as the herd runs past me in the tea tree.

And if you want to run heavy for cal the slower powders yield greater velocity.

    I load 100g in dad's 18.5" mod 7 using imr7828ssc. Works a treat and gets 300 fps more than 100g federal.
