    Thanks for the offer @Tentman ,but now that I know they are still made I will try and get my hands on some 87gn’s first as that’s what they were designed to shoot , to be honest I have not actually confirmed the twist rate but it is the original barrel and if you believe what you read almost all early built 250-3000 rifles were built with 1-14

    Hi Lucky,

    Reloader Supplies has the Speer 87 grain showing as available and NZ Ammo are showing the Sierra 87 grain as being in stock. It may be worth giving Deadeye Dick a call re the Sierra as their website these days is a dead waste of time.

    Hornady make a 87 grain spire point. The 87/90 gn projectiles in .25 cal are quite soft in construction. I’d call them a heavy varmit pill. I used a lot of them in the .257 Roberts and .25/06. Great for Roos and small to medium pigs and goats. I had some monumental failures on large goats, pigs, fallow and horses due to lack penetration. Four in the shoulder of one horse without getting through before I slowed it up for a head shot. You need to go to 100 grains in cup and core to get reliable performance in .257 cal.
    Barnes x would be worth a try in <100 gn pills if you can’t or won’t shoot 100s.

    @Lucky

    The Sierra 'Varmiter' SPT (Semi-Point) 87 grain seems to be the ticket, specifically mentions the 250-3000 Savage too.

    On their website: https://www.sierrabullets.com/produc...ber-87-gr-spt/

    Seems like these guys sell them: https://www.outdoorsupplies.co.nz/Sierra_Varminter.html

    Best of luck!

    Try necking up .22/250 brass. Maybe in two stages using a 6mm expander button in your die, before the .257 one. Anneal first if you start loosing cases.

    And Reloader Supplies have Hornady and Winchester 250 brass listed.
    As for quality Winchester used to be very good and the 250 Sav AI brass I am using is going well. The last lot of Win 22 Hornet brass I bought about 2 years ago is rubbish.
    The new Hornady 250 Sav brass I have stored away looks good but I haven't fireformed it yet.
    Norma once made 250 Sav brass and it was excellent.
