A bit of compression is fine. If you look at load data sometimes you'll see a "C" next to the number of grains. That's the manufacturer themselves telling you that the powder will be compressed.

Heavy compression creates its own problems. The seating stem in your die will start marking bullets from the extra pressure being applied. Then the bullets might start to push back out causing your overall lengths to vary quite a lot.

@Ruapehu you could try using a long drop tube (not what you think! ) to settle the powder betteror electric toothbursh motor to vibrate the case and achieve the same.

Black powder shooters often use these techniques for sneaking a few grains more powder into the case.

Also Hodgdon superproformance is a good powder for the .260.

No I just settled for 2710 with 42.3 grains of 2209 for the 147g still shoots flatter and Less wind affected than the 130 grain eldm at 1300 + yards .
as far as I'm concerned the case really needs improving and you need about 0.280" free bore and it's got to be built on a long action like my first 260 .

I quickly ran the figures through Gordons Reloading Tool , not having your case volumes at hand I used the stored averages within the programme the results will not be 100% accurate .
Predicted pressured with a C.O.L of 2.800" is 53,498psi with 104% case fill and a C.O.L of 2,700 gave 57,842psi with 107% case fill ,. Max allowed pressure is 60,191 psi for the 260 .Predicted velocities are 2800 fps and 2849 fps using a 24" barrel .
Remember , these figures are only a computer simulation and cannot replace proper load development .
Given the simulation and lack of pressure indicators all would indicate a safe load .

Hope this has been of some help .

Agree about being on a long action mine have all been on a Tikka action and did do an improved version but there was not a lot of gain for the extra effort involved.

That's brilliant thanks, coal is 2.750" and 22" barrel so somewhere between those figures which is what I put into the ballistics calculator for sighting in,my M7 seems to like them with two holes touching then the third always about 12-15mm away

300m is a long shot for me which I why I usually run Partitions bor 130gr ttsx, most shots under 100m,so these lrab projectiles are probably being wasted but a dead deer is always a good outcome

GRT is easy to use even for a cackhanded Yorkshireman, such as myself. It's also free to download , but requires a PC or laptop and won't work on android.
Unfortunately I am now away from home so am unable to run it again with your specific C.O.L .

Yea same I sanded out the pressure point at the front which helped on one of mine unless it was a fluke

I did a redeux , C.O.L of 2.750 , 22" barrel . Again using average case volume from the programme, 55587 psi and 2767 fps predicted. Pressure is getting up there .

Thanks for that,I don't generally like getting to close to the edge but will fire a couple more and if no pressure signs again then should be okay, just a bit disconcerting listening to the powder crunching down
