    .260 rem fps

    Hi there
Im trying to develop a load for my .260 rem, 20" barrel, Lapua brass with 140gr A-Max, im trying to work my velocity up and wondering if anyone has any info that would save me time and money?

Im currently getting nice accurate groups at 2630fps and at 43gr powder (AR2209 no pressure signs) above this still no pressure signs but accuracy goes out the window, Ive carefully loaded up to 44gr but cant get anymore powder in not that its accurate at this load anyway.

I currently see two other powder options to get higher velocity, being ADI2217 / reloader17 / reloader 19

Im thinking of trying ADI2217 apparently I should get another 100fps but can anyone confirm this as a generalisation in their experience?
also it says max load of 2217 for .260rem with 140gr projectile is 50.5gr of powder and im not sure if this will fit in the case, as I haven't used this powder before, does this powder use less volume for its weight? really dont want to buy another box of powder to sit on the table.....

any suggestions or data information would be much welcomed

cheers thats good to hear, you wouldnt happen to know if it uses less volume for the added charge weight you have to use?

The case is fuuullll need a drop tube of some description & a good seating die, a magnum primer would probably help too, got fantastic speed & accuracy out past 1000 in my 26" 260

Drop tube allows you to fit more powder into the case, slip drop tube into case (not all the way in) fit funnel over the top of it and slowly pour powder into funnel then carefully remove drop tube from case and it should make that would be compressed load fit into the case a lot better. My drop tube is a trimmed down plastic straw from McD's

I'll say it, Why screw with something that its working just fine. That is heaps of speed and energy for most applications.

Why are you worrying about speed I use 129gn in front of 44gn ar2209 am getting just under 2700 fps from a 22 inch barrel they group under 1/2 inch and have a counted for dozens of pigs and a couple of deer all but one boar were single shot and went no more than 10-15 metres after being hit speed don't kill its placement

your right, that round will work for most applications, and I have a bunch made up for hunting at the moment, though this is only the first round that I have developed for this rifle and so im using it as a benchmark I guess to develop another one which would better
suite longer ranges where a higher velocity will help.
Bullet placement is always key... energy at impact is also important + less dialing on the scope
I shoot at both short range & bush and long range across valleys. I use to hunt red deer with a .243 where bullet placement was vital and if you didn't hit vital organs it would take a while to track and finish it off

Absolutely agree, bullet placement is key. Of course going from a 243 to a 260 - the 0.5mm projectile diameter difference isn't going to change that.
