I looked into this on the Nosler reloading forum and the guys there were very helpful and had some interesting sections that demonstrated that it’s quite a variable bullet from calibre to calibre, and within a certain calibre between the different weights available. Didn’t we look into this @Max Headroom?
Yeah, you did some research for me after I zapped 2x 7mm Nosler 120's through a spiker without either of them going kaboom.

I guess it goes to show that the perfect projectile that behaves just as you desire under all conditions is still a ways off.

That is, unless somebody's found it already.....

Surprised no one has mentioned the 150gr nosler long range accubond, as far as versatility goes it is pretty hard to beat!

Yeah good point @TLB, but my (indirect) experience of that bullet is that its fussy and can be tricky to get to shoot right. Which is unusual for 150gr .308 bullets.

Yeah I know in other calibers they were a bit 50/50 but in .270 they seem to be a bit better. Likes of Tikka and Howas definitely shoot them well and they are certainly proven from 20 metres through to 800 metres on game by others on here.
When we are finally allowed out I'll be putting some reloader 26 behind them and if they shoot with it, around that 2950 to 3050 fps mark I don't think much is going to walk away.

No, meaning for the deer permit period. I got in their twice and we watched two before they closed it up and yes your correct those stags are something else. Incredible to see them.
I specifically loaded a different bullet for in there also, having to wait now...obviously.
Interesting reading, I for the life of me can’t understand penny pinching over a $2 pill if it means deer down. Nothing worse than an animal walking off because of the wrong pill.
I have never seen any PH or GK even look like being suspect and 90% of what I shoot at is sub 60m, in 308 and 6.5 and 7mm.

    .270 140 game kings exploding

Here are 2 Sierra pro hunter and one game king projectiles taken from fallow shot through the chest and shoulder at 270 to 300 meters. All 130 gn .270 caliber. MV 3000 fps.

All one shot kills that dropped on the spot.

Projectiles remnants found under off side skin.

No difference in behaviour between the two types.

I like them for fallow and goats but would not use them for bigger deer, reds stages or Sambar.

I’ve set up a second rifle in this caliber and shoot 140 gn Nosler BTS in it at 2900 fps MV. It’s my longer range open country light deer rifle. Under similar conditions 250 m + shots I these projectiles always punch through chest and shoulders. Have not yet recovered a jacket but find bits of the core and a huge wound trail.

300mtrs and recovered looking like that from inside aFALLOW..... yes the evidence would suggest they might well be too fragile for up close at close to 3000fps on big animal.

Yes MD, as Danny says below - for the deer permit season. Feb, March and April. Only one month per hunter on a ballot system. Must be local to the area and a member of the NZDA, police security or Kinleith worker who lives in the area.

Unfortunately I’ve never done this with a selection of bullets all at once, usually just two or three, and of course my record keeping and so on is rubbish and I end up not being able to find what I did a few years ago...

There are a few very good selections photographed on the Internet, but I am really keen to start one up again to try and put to bed some of the myths about bullet construction. My pet hate is actually the opposite scenario to the question in this thread, when someone uses a harder bonded bullet or (especially) monolithics for long-range shooting and starts complaining about why it doesn’t work. Barnes for example have some truly bullshit claims on their website about the LRX and it gives me the shits to see guys trying shots at 600 or 700m with these bullets.
Ok I have sectioned a few 7mm projectiles and have started a new thread so I don't hijack this one, but it does prove Flyblown's point. No real difference in jacket thickness, maybe just a tad thicker on the hollow point one.

I shot a few fallow with that same bullet a couple of weeks ago, they made a mess , all broke up exept for the hind which did pencil but that happens when you shoot the poor bloody thing in the guts ,not my best work. Im going back to soft points as pointy plastic bullets cost to much for the kind of shooting i do.i have also come to the conclusion that i am too much of a ruff bastard to be a great reloader . 😁

Still not a hard bullet but I would give the 150gr Hornady Interlock a go.

The only sgk projectiles I’ve used is 65gr 223 and 165gr in 308 and they killed deer well with a single shot under 300m.
The Nosler 150gr LRAB’s are by far the best in kills on deer and accuracy that I’ve use in a 270win near and far.

An interesting thread as I've just started using the new Sako ammo with the 165gr tipped gameking in my 7mm rem mag, only shot one deer so far a couple of weeks ago now , a red hind at 20 mtrs and purposely aimed for her shoulder to see how the bullet performed when it hit some bone. The bullet smashed through both shoulders with a reasonable exit hole but not what I would call explosive , but need further testing which has been put on hold for now.

I had a guy loading 140 btsp gk in my 270wsm at 2900 before i got into reloading....i cant recall having any issues with its performance on the 30 or so Reds i harvested with it.
Funnily, when i started reloading i convinced myself that i had to load tipped projectiles and have more speed.

Its a long time, since my days meat hunting/goat culling, with the 270 win, I had a extremally good run, with 140gr Ballistic tips, only changed from them, too a 150gr soft-point, for stags during the roar.
I suggest you try a 150 gr soft point, Speer hotcor/Grand slam, Hornardy interlock or Nosler partion, or a bonded bullet like a accubond,
