Also, I wouldn't get too hung up on BC's of a bullet unless your going to be shooting over 450yds with the .270.

I've only ever used sierra pro hunter 130 . My remmy shots them real well . Nothing has got up again either ! . Nothing over 250 yet.
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
When I was using factory ammo in my Tikka T3 .270 I ran Fed Powershok 130gr (Blue box) exclusively. Was getting consistent 0.5" groups at 100yds and never lost an animal. Only down side is that they dropped like a brick past 300yds due to poor BC. As others have said, definately a good place to start though, but try a few other types of ammo also to see what your rifle likes. Keep away from the SST's as they are too explosive for the speeds a .270 pushes them.
I now run 130gr Accubonds going 3060fps with x amount of AR2209 and everything shot with them goes straight down. Also had very good success with 130gr Gamekings and RL-22.
Hunting is not a hobby.....its an addiction
RL-22 is what I'm using, good speeds and accuracy.
I use 150gn SSTs exclusively now.
Dialled it down in speed, so nice recoil and no blow ups when close.
Welcome to Sako club.
How do you get enough speed out of the 150gr projectiles to beat a 140gr at 500m?
On the ballistics program I have the 140gr Accubond is out performing the a 150 VLD at 500m.
The 140 is starting at 899 m/s and doing 614 m/s at 500m. With 1713 joules of energy, with 10.3 moa drop.
The 150 is starting at 853 m/s and doing 592 m/s at 500m. With 1703 joules of energy, with 11.5 moa drop.
Ok so there is fuck all real world difference there, but if I could get the 150's to go a bit faster they would be the winner. Unfortunately when they do go a bit faster the group blows out over 1.5 moa.
So what speeds are other peolpe getting 150's to go and shoot?
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Dad gave me his 270 when I was 12 and I have been hunting with it since up until this year. I used to use 130gn sst's and they work a dream, I only use it now on fallow and take it hunting hog deer when I chase them but I'll be changing to Barnes tsx 140'sor Barnes ttsx 130gn. They pretty much the best projectiles that you can get anywhere and if you reload them you can do it for around $1.50 a shot.
The higher BC of the 150s means they catch up further out and since they're only at an academic tiny disadvantage closer in, they're better. You said "400m+" not "400m+ but only under 500m"
880m/s isn't unreasonable from 150s
Yea I suppose I'm sour about the fact I can't get them to shoot in the Win.
I want meaning only out to 500m. That was just a figure I punched in to strelok

Rule 5: Check your firing zone
I have been shooting the 270 for a bit over 20 years and tried a lot of different hand loaded projectiles from 130gn to the 161gn.
400m is about the limit of my shooting and I hunt mainly Sika, Reds and pigs. (I never used the 161gn Lapua Mega to that distance)
For the last few years I have been using 140gn Accubonds and am very happy with them but at the end of the day I have not come across a 'bad' bullet yet. Of the dozen or so I have loaded, if I hit the animal in the right place it would kill it pretty dam quickly. I would change loads because I thought the next one might be better, not because the last one was no good.
Of course the amount of damage a projectile causes varies depending on construction and weight so you have to decide what you want out of it. A bullet that holds together well at close range may not expand much at long range and one that expands at range may fragment more close up.
Personally I would rather kill an animal quickly and loose a bit of meat than loose an animal or have to follow it for a while.
If you choose any hunting projectile of 130gn or heavier for the 270 you shouldn't have any problems if you shoot them in the boiler room.
Brenik, have you tried the 140g Nosler Ballistic Tip ?
They are a great all rounder projectile for the 270 and 270 wsm.
A big fast bullet beats a little fast bullet every time
I can attest to the effectiveness of the Federal blue box 130gr if you are just bush hunting.
140gr sst is hard to beat for 270 goes good even in my short barrel, also use 110gr TTSX Barnes for more speed and closer shots
