Thread: 284 Winchester load data using AR2209

Thank you grandpamac, as it turns have been hand loading for last 20 years, have also been a member of NZHA in the past have access to a private range so ceased to be a member. I am new to the 284 cartridge and have seen various post and load information for this cartridge (some as high as 58 grains) I seat the bullet out magazine length in the tikka with a small jump to the lands. The load I am using i worked up from 52 grains and have chronograph these as part of load development.

Based on your posts though I will probably back the load off to 56.5 grains as I agree better to safe

This was my exact load for 20 years using 139gr Interlocs. It was in a BSA Medium action and loaded to approx 3in. It was the Nick Harvey recommended load back in the day. I am now using 56gr RE16 with 140BTs as one of my loads but in Tikka action.

55.5gr 2209
162gr ELD-M
Tikka T3
18" Barrel
2716 FPS

This about 0.5gr less than the hard limit for this rifle.
The throat is longer than a std 284 so the projectile is seated with the BT right on the neck junction. COAL is longer than normal.
