    30 cal sabots??

Ive toyed with this as an idea do any of you guys use them whats your experiences or thoughts
ive coppied this off of someones TM listing

sabots for a 30 cal rifle
they use a 22 cal projectile (I use 55 gn vmaxs) pressed into the sabot.photos of bullets are a 223 and a 30 06 using same projectile. the 30 06 is traveling about 4200 fps
They are like a wad in a shotgun and separate as it leaves the barrel

here is a few est muzzle velocity
    .300 win mag 4400 fps
    3006 4200 fps
    308 win 3800 fps
    30 30 win 3500 fps

Would they very accurate or just be flying shrapnel at high speed?

I've got some loaded for my 308 but am yet to give them a go. i've got some 50 grain nosler shots and some 75 grain A-Max's loaded up. Not sure if the A-Max ones will stabilise in a 1-10 twist 308 barrel though.

it's a nice day here today and i need something to do, so might head out this afternoon and give them a try.

Weight both the Sabot and the projectile, then add the two weights together for a total.
Using the total weight consult your reloading book, you would use a slightly faster burn powder than normally used for that weight id say, at a guess as there is next to no friction (compared to a copper jacketed projectile) from that delrin Sabot slipping down the bore.

Accuracy could be a bit hit or miss

I used some many years ago in a 308 (55gr 224 cal sabot) I wouldn't get to excited if your a varmint shooter as accuracy was only about 1 1/2 MOA, but on goats they were great.
1000yds is fun, 1500yds is getting interesting, 2000yds is exciting, 2500yds will blow your mind

I bought a bag of 30 cal sabots years ago when I had a couple of M1 Carbines. I think I was using .223 40 grain VMAX's in an attempt to varmint-up an M1. I vaguely recall it being a wasted effort.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

I tried them in a Winchester Featherweight.
Accuracy was abysmal nearly did my head until whacked a couple deer loads through and realised it wasnt me.
Did make a mess of a hare once but to be honest could have whacked with my .22

I used some years ago. Hard to get load info. Accuracy nothing special. The sabots kill chronographs!
