If you light one in a vice when its burnt out you can pour the lead out on the bench, I think this is a large part of why they have such a bad rep for ricochets.
the bullet impacts and the molten lead splashes out the phosphorous(?) core in any direction.

I've shot goats and turkeys with sks tracers. In the evening the colour stood out like dog balls. I have some .308 ones here that have been pulled. Gotta get around to reloading them I think

I wouldnt think tracer is allowed at any range. The 1942/43 brass is pretty good stuff, needs de-crimping and sorting as the weight varies quite a bit. 164~173grians is normal with 166~168 grains common. Im always looking for more of it if the price is sane.

Once saw a guy burn down 6 acres of pine forest and a fair length of telephone cable and wires with a WW11 303 tracer round. Shot a pine tree at 100 metres. The bullet bounced off and into the dry needles. It was all shouting, swearing, farting and arm waving from that moment on...

It won't be the bullet that bounced off just the phosperous? and moulton lead core splashing out on impact.

Wouldn't those WWII tracers be collectable? If I had some I'd be keeping them for sure.
