well,that touched a nerve...but you have shot yourself in the foot somewhat....IF you put a high BC projectile into a .30/30 ...rangefind and dial up...it will do the job too,after all a 150grn projectile at 2200fps is a 150grn projectile at 2200fps no matter if its poked out of a .30/30 at 50 yards or a 300wm at 500-600-700yards

I normally do not shoot out past 300 yards.most of my animals are taken within 100 yards but I know I can happily stretch barrel out to 350ish.....
I do not need top velocity to do that...folks have been doing it for a very very long time.
the biggest thing is to proove to yourself on paper you can do it.....the ocasional hare at 300 yards does wonders for your confidence,wallabies are perfect as pretty much any hit will be fatal,they dont take a lot to kill cleanly.

Cheers @Micky Duck - I use this rifle for mainly the bush, but often break into the tops. more curious on what other people were getting out of there rifles then anything.

I estimated about 2725-2750fps for the Superformance 150gr SST in my 16" setup. Works well to 300y so far.

I shot a stag in the ruahines at 400 or 440yards, and he dropped on the spot, and stayed down. When I got over there though, he was very much alive, albeit very paralysed. Finished him off, and found the bullet had hit the spine above the shoulder. I found the bullet under the skin on the offside, not much expansion. That was eight years ago, and I’ve not used the 130ttsx past 300 since then.
The other one was a much closer deer, which is where they’re best suited.

I dropped down to 110g Barnes for up close and personal and they work well.

Yup, as above 150gr GMX.

Shot a sika stag last year just behind the shoulder at 310m, no expansion just zipped through.

The one from 20m that hit him in the left buttock and ended up under the skin on his right shoulder did though

Yep it seems to be the story eh. Out past 300 and it’s not humane.
Here in the uk it’s not often you get past 300.
Might have to try and pick up some drt 30 cal heads when I’m over in the states in August.

Like a few of you I’m using the 130g Barnes TTSX at 2957 ft/sec, I used to have them over 3000 ft/sec with 2 more grains of powder but that was a bit hot.
My Tikka .308 has a 16 inch barrel.
I’ve shot deer out to 430 yards with mine and note that shooter suggests it gets below 1000ft pound of energy at 450 yards. 500 yards would be the limit for me.
In the bush environment I shoot any sort of factory ammo (usually 165g), because as someone said above, speed is of little consequence at those short ranges.
