Thread: 308 Short Barrel Ammo Advice

Hi all, I am in need of some help. I have recently picked a 308 with a barrel length cut down to 18 inch. I have done a bit of shooting with some 150 grain federal fusion but seems to have preformed poorly at range so am looking to switch to some new ammo

Just wonder what factory ammo people are running for 0-400m out of a 18inch .308. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Same ammo as in a 20". 18" is not a "short barrel". Look for trouble too, like damaged crown, poor action bedding, secure scope mount, etc.

I don't own a .308 so someone else can advise further, but I expect you'll just have to try different brands of factory ammo.

Iv got a 18in 308,best ammo is Hornady 150gr or 165gr ssts.Deadly accurate and good for long range (500yds).

so by preformed poorly at range....is that long range or the riffly rangi type range????

plenty of factory options..winchester is always good...

What trout says, the factory Superperformance 150's and 165's, or even 168 bthp match. Geco is good as well. Spoilt for choice with good factory ammo for 308. They seem to get it right in this calibre and can sometimes be hard to match with reloads.
