357 Maximum powders for rifle length barrel.

Anyone loading the 357max in 22-24 inch rifle. I've just run a max reamer into a Rossi single shot 357 mag with a 23" barrel. Most load data I'm finding seems to be for contenders with fast burning powders. I'm planning to chase 2000fps with the lee 200gr gas checked cast bullet. Anyone have any experience with this cartridge. Boomer.

I am using 2205 and getting 1800fps with 158 gr XTP,s but according to Mr Google 2200 fps is achievable.
If my rifle was in 357 Mag it would still do all I want and cases would be easier to come by.
If I fire 10 or so 357 mags, max cases become hard to load with out a good clean of the chamber.

I have other 357 mag firearms and 358 win and 358 Whelan as well so this will be a dedicated max. I was sitting on a stack of starline brass and a max reamer so thought I'd have a play.

sounds like a bloody good reason to do so...and a worthwhile change..sort of AI but much more simple to do. it will be interesting how much extra gain you manage to achieve and the same with a lighter projectile too.

You just got me thinking about heavy bullets in the 357 Max and it seems 200 Gr / 2000 fps would not be easy to achieve.
I would be interested in your loads when you work them up.
I just had a look at the pistol primers in my loads and they are quite flattened so small rifle primers may be needed.
Also 2207 could be a better powder for heavier bullets.
Please update on progress when you get it shooting.

Did you try the 200gr in the original chambering at normal loadings? I could not get accuracy from my rossi single with anything over 180's, put it down to the rossi's slow 1:30 twist.
