I haven't had the 143 eldx fail at close range in my 18" barreled 6.5prc yet.
One close shot at a sika stag at 20m that was wounded from a failed 123gr sst @2900fps, which I think hit brush before the deer. My final shot was a143eldx @2850fps, this passed clean through a 30mm thick sapling 5m before it hit a raking shot down his ribs then stopping inside the base of the neck/spine.

That's pretty impressive performance, 2850 is where I'd like to end up speed wise but we'll see what happens.

Easy, I'm hitting that with the factory eld x and only 20 rounds down the barrel.

What speeds should you expect from a 20" shooting the 143 handloaded?

I would want 2950 or more otherwise its not worth the extra powder my Creedmoor and my old .260 are pushing them at 2810fps from 20" and 18" barrels.
So to warrant the extra powder you would like to think 2950-3000 shouldn't be too much to ask.

For what its worth ive shot atleast 30 deer over the last few years with the 143gr eldx @ 2600fps from 20 to 400m. Had a few runners (only at close distance when ive had to shoot behind shoulder rather than head/neck, and has resulted in a pass through but none that have got away. using them in a prc now and they get along at 3050 with 2217.

26". Yet to try it with higher charges i had only loaded my ladder to what gave me 3050. it shot a .365moa group at that so i doubt ill run it any faster, have loaded some more up a bit hotter to see out of interest but pretty happy with it where it is.
