    6.5-284 short action

Anybody running one on a short action and if so what sort of results are you getting?

I would need to run 75mm oa length or less for mag feeding.

    6.5-284 short action

Shorten a RUM case until you get exactly the length you want

The new 28 nosler brass is 3.340 long

I'm running 140gr partitions 76mm OAL and getting 2975fps, it is out of a long action but I also run 140A-max @ 79.5mm. The partitions are accurate and deadly. Cheers.

Cheers..... thats a pretty big jump for the partitions, they seem to like it?

I could go long throat and single feed for gongs and find a projectile that will handle the jump for hunting I guess but life is so much better mag fed.

Edit just realized not a big jump cos of bullet nose shape.

I guess so but how much would I loose stuffing the 140 into the case till 75mm O/A?

My 30-284 goes pretty well and a 178 is stuffed in the case pretty deep.

    wouldn't you long throat it?
assuming its for hunting you could get it throated for the lighter gmx and mag feed them?

Hey @veitnamcam I run a Ruger Long action (ex .270) had barrel change work done at Stager Sport and am now running 6.5 x.284...

I run Sierra 123g HPBT at 2.830" or 71.882mm and Sierra 142g HPBT at 2.910" or 73.914mm... factory Norma brass...works really well, and rather accurate too...

Yea not if I can get away with it, if it is a 50 odd? fps loss it is not worth the pain single feeding.

Why so short on a long action?
What barrel length and speeds are you getting?

Originally I was going to do a .264 Win mag, but in the end moved to the 6.5 x.284 22" 1-8 twist, already had the doner rifle, haven't had it long, been to the range once and @Woody was good enough to let me borrow his chrono...
I worked up some rounds based on the Sierra recommendations, damn accurate, within 5" of Bull at 500m (in my defense the heat haze was horrendous) H&K Man can vouch for that...lol At 300m 1/2" from Bull and no more than 1" at 400m
So on the chrono 123g were pushing 3K and 142g pushing 2850fps and neither were on max load... 123g on 2217, 142g on 2209...
Am going to load up some Nosler LRAB 129g too

hey, mine is in a sako long action and im running just over 77mm OAL, if you could get 75 then you will still be sweet with a 140VLD and proably around the 2900 mark

have you thought about a 260?
