Welcome to Sako club.
@dogmatix just to open another can of worms, what are peoples views of using the 123gr ELD-M for hunting?
Ive shot a few reds and a fallow with the 123gr eldm (Factory Hornady Black) in 6.5G. They performed very well. One of the animals was a bloody big Red stag shot just behind the shoulder at 230 yards. I was surprised at the amount of internal damage. I'll dig out the pic of the fallow i shot at just over 100 yards and post it up.
There's a thread on here somewhere on 6.5 Grendel loads, maybe wingman?
Was very good, BM8208 120 gr odd projectiles. Was pretty spot on I found. You just have to realise what the Grendel is, and it's case only holds so much powder.
The slower speed probably probably helps with the ELD-Ms at closer ranges on animals.
one of my old friends has the same setup as you are getting and has done a lot of load development he would be worth talking to
Is he on here
I fired up the grendal on the weekend (couldn't help myself) and did a quick sight in with hornady black.
Shot a few goats with it. Performed well. Only shot out to 150. All seemed to pass through and kill well
took it for a shoot today had 2 hand loads to try some 90gr speer tnts and some 120 gr speer gold dots new rifle took about 6 shots for the barrel to settle down and then shot a couple of groups trigger was a little on the heavy side so pulled a couple of shots but this looks like it will easy do 1/2" at 100 as is out of the box id put some pics up but for some reason it wont let me at the moment
im not the best shot in the world but you get the idea
Did a quick chrony yesterday my 90gr load is averaging 2584fps mv
