Yeah pretty close, little bit less recoil than my 284 shooting 162s, not that it's uncomfortable at all but does hop around making follow ups a bit harder.

I'm thinking mainly for the availibility of factory ammo and keeping both my hunting rigs at 6.5s for simplicity.

Might try keep the barrel at 24 inches on this and shoot unsuppressed for a bit

I have a 270 and shoot 140 AB's at 3000. If I went to ELD's I would get 3100 so I dont know if there is enough gain. I like the 6.5 Saum ballistics with 140's at 3200.
But how far do I need to shoot ? Went on an overnight scouting mission yesterday and saw so many deer I didn't know which one to shoot, all DOC. Sixteen in one little gully, I crept to within 80 metres of them, two spikers got to 40 metres from them. Saw four at 600 ish but could have got within 200 in ten minutes- if you shoot them you have to go over there so might as well go some of the way before shooting. Spooked two at 20 metres while looking at flowers and they were the only ones that I would not have been able to shoot. I think a light little 6.5x47 would be the go !

    Has anyone got experience comparing felt recoil between a 284 shooting 162s and a 6.5PRC with 140 - 147s?

Heap more hitting power out far hard to beat the 156 Berger for bc at 2900 will leave the 140 for dust at 3040 in energy go on new is fun

We had a big rainstorm go through the night before, I walked in and camped, got up at 4am and walked along a bush ridge to be coming into the open at 5.50 am. The big group of deer obviously had not seen action in a while but they were all back in the bush by 7am even though it was cold and overcast. I carried a swanny in, so that I was very quiet in the wet scrub.
Stevedog Is there sign down in the scrubby faces and the grass in the scrub margin ? If there is sign, just get there at the right time. Take a sleeping bag.

Stagstalker the PRC I sold Nick was very pleasant to shoot . It was a lot lighter recoiling than my 30/284 with 155 amax's . I was using 143 eld's factory .

It's a Tier One mate, with carbon fibre legs. I quite like it, solid and stable without being overly heavy. Have leg extensions for it too and the claw feet which are bloody good.

My PRC is a 26” 1/7 twist kreiger
I tried the 150 sierra MK originally but wouldn’t group well enough. Went to 147 eldm. They went really well and super accurate but would get random exploders. I ran them out to 1 mile pretty well and used at a few matches. Ar2225 3120fps. After a couple of firings I then started to get some pressure so dropped a grain of powder. Ran at 3060fps. Then changed to 156 Berger EOL, at 3020fps. Same charge as 147 eldm. I have done one match, and shot them out to 2km. Trajectory wise matches my 338lapua with 285. I have also done a 130 bergeR AR hybrid at the same charge and was a mild 2950fps if I cranked the charge up they would probably do 3150-3200 easy enough Was super accurate to 400m but not as good further out. I’m thinking twist rate. Worked well on deer heads. I have some 144 Berger on the next order coming in to use and 153 Berger. Shot 800 rounds down it so far 1/2 at matches.

I am running a long action and col about 3.075

Virtually identical powder charge with 85% projectile weight so going to be lighter recoiling than the 284 for sure. My 284 is plenty comfortable to shoot but does hop around a bit, even with a good bipod load
