Yep, Had exactly the same issue with AB's in my 280AI, And Maunga Teitei had the same problem on his latest trip with them too, which is why he's looking for a different projectile for next year.
You can debate how tough or not Tahr are, and it might be relevant in the open east coast country. I dont know. But in the bluffy, scrubby west coast stuff a matter of a few seconds can see a Tahr unretrievable or lost. Which is what happened.
Ive shot and seen alot of Bull Tahr shot too. Ive seen them go straight down, and ive seen them run a considerable distance and take multiple shots. Given that my experience will be no different o anyone else, I conclude some of you are remembering your good experiences, and forgetting the not so good.

Under most circumstances a softer bullet kills better than a harder bullet.

147 eldm are the hardest hitting 6.5 mm bullet I have used out of 123 sst, 140 sp, 120 & 140 bonded gold dot and 143 eldx .
Doesn't matter the bullet/calibre if you want to drop an animal on the spot; it's all down to hitting the CNS (Central nervous system) somewhere at/before the front legs.

I use 147 eld m out of 260. Shot some bull tahr and other animals. Goes well.

You don’t see any benefit in the ELD X?
I have used 142grs A-Max on roedeer with Great success. Not quite so successful on a big stag…. I’m a bit worried on how the ELD M works on short ranges. I’d like to be able to have something that works well from 0-350m. More often than not closer to 0…

I find the ELDx pretty explosive in .277 cal when driven hard. In .264 with a decent case volume and impact velocity, probably the same.

At what ranges do You find them to work well? I take it velocities are at the muzzle?

I shot reds and fallow from 20M to 630m.
Shot a big red stag at 500m and a fallow and bull Tahr at 620 and 630m.
The tahr was a bit of a slow kill but broke front shoulder.
147Eldm and nosler 142 ablr work well also.

The 130/140 Sierra Gamechanger Bullets will do the job nicely, a lot of time shooting Tahr you are shooting up/downhill so you need to account for that in your shot placement into the vitals and as someone else said big shaggy Bulls, take your time to sort out where the shoulder actually is in that mane.

What ranges? Have they packed up rather quick?
Shot a wap at 256 yrds and he stumbled a few yards and died quick. Good shot placement is the key.
