Thread: 6.5x47 Short Barrel Data enquiry

any 6.5x47 owners here running 18-19inch barrels and supressors
thinking of rebarreling my 260 to 6.5x57L with a 18-19 inch barrel so its roughly like a 21 inch -22inch barreled rifle with can on
ill be using a 1:8.5 or 1:8 twist semi heavy barrel and only 120gn to 130gn projectiles i know most will say 140gn-143gn projectiles but i like the 120gn -130gn class of projectiles
so what are the common primers and got to powders in that projectile range in short barrels you guys have found?

I have had a 260 Rem and now 6.5x47L and 243 Win. I can't see any reason to go from the larger to smaller case (if it's a hunting rifler) unless you have mag length limitaions. It would be like taking your foot off the gas. With a shorter barrel you want to start with a bigger bang to make up for you lack of barrel length. My go to for the 6.5x47L is AR2208. Shorter barrel = less velocity. There is nothing wrong with the 260 Rem it's the mans 6.5 Creedmoor.

yep the abolt mag length bit tight for the old 260 even with 120gn projectiles
im running a 1:9 twist 260 at 2.790oal with 120gn gold dots and 42.5gn of 2208 atm from 21inch barrel
