I have a swed and ai

Haven't got loads for my ai yet but from reading around it seems that with a modern rifle you can load the swed over book max and it gets pretty similar results with the ai.

    Ai looks cooler though

@Toby the coolest looking Swed on the East Coast.

6.5x55 is a great calibre for hunting in NZ.

I'll be able to post some results in a few weeks for the 6.5x55AI.

If you want some speed and accuracy out to 600 the 125gr Nosler Partition is a good choice for the 6.5.
If you can get them to shoot in your rifle I highly recommend them. They are very accurate for a hunting bullet and kill really well.

No not at all but they may not shoot in everyone's rifle.

Glad I'm not the only one looking at doing this. There's always the 6.5 super long range too. Supposed to be better for barrel life

I've just loaded some rounds up. Keen to shoot them off now and see how it shoots. Might have to form some more brass don't think 21 is enough

I've used the swede for 30 years. No matter how fast you make it go, it's still 6.5 in diameter and between 120 and 140 grn. These are natural limitations. My current 6.6x55 is a modern S&L and 140grn do 2800 fps no trouble. My observation is that after 350-400 yards it's quite a slow killer, especially with lung shots. I don't imagine an extra 100 fps is going to change that much.
I've had kills out to 550 yards, but I reckon that's about the limit. Maybe 600 yds.

I don't imagine that the AI will improve things too much. You really need to jump up to a 6.5 mag of some sort, but the advantages over even a 270 are not going to be great.

i have a 6.5x55 AI, i use 51grn's? (at work so can't check) of n560 doing just over 3000fps using 140grn amax. barrel is 24" trueflight.Daughter has the longest kill with it so far at 611yds. i use it for tops shooting out to about 6-650 which i think will just about pull it up.
