    7.62x39 loads and projectiles

interested to hear what you guys are using..

other than the Hornady 123gr SP and SST which projectiles ?

any issues using .311 projectiles ? Sierra has 125gr and 150gr in Prohunter

does anybody know of a NZ source for 303 lead heads (180 or 200gr)

I with you about 200gr lead cast ammo for .303. I wanna load some black powder rounds with it. I made 3 with the .270 was going 1,500fps and had no kick at all using 130 prohunters. 140 prohunters came today ad have 165 nosler axcubonds

As an aside the 7.6.2 x 39 might be going from a cheap round to un-available or at least pricey.

huh ? what, where, who ?

is this coz the crazy yanks are stockpiling or coz of the impending NZ law changes (surely not) ?

@ebf yes its the yanks, this was passed on from someone else so hopefully its of no concern I am repeating it. (I assume its genuine but its inline from what else Ive seen)

"I have already run out of 7.62 x 39 SP. BARNAUL have told me that 2013 is virtually “booked up” with orders now! We are in for a very tough year – as far as supply goes."

    @littledog

Matches comments ive seen from the USA....223 selling like crazy to go with the AR15s that are selling like crazy, so I take it as genuine.....so a 223 maybe be just as bad an idea, hard to know I'd defer to ppl who more experience than me.

Yep, seems you are right Steven. Spoke to a contact in the US and was told most major supplies have been stripped from shelves. Just hope the Eastern Euro stuff isn't as badly hit but if Barnaul a stretched as well it doesn't seem good news.

Barnual is apparently flat out and cant keep up.

So reloading might be a cheaper way to go.

Anyone know of a 310 projectile with a higher BC than the .295 Hornady SST ?

Also keen to hear what the max (safe) speed is you got 7.62x39 up to and what powder gave you the top speeds ?

Decent 311 pills are hard to find
I missed out on a point form die that I could use in the hydro press to bump 308 pills up to 311 just recently.
Have thought about getting one made but would have lost interest by the time it arrives in 2 years
Might be time to start experimenting with making some of these oddball dies here in NZ if I can find a keen local toolmaker?

Steven: 18 inch chopped Baikal, want to experiment and see how far I can stretch its legs...

Spanners: should have a reasonable market for decent 303 and can also use them for 7.62x39 subsonics ?

Im looking to pick up a Enfield 303 (or an Ishapore) so a mold might be of interest, nothing ready made?

    Actually, yes....
