Lemington 700
This is interesting. Mate just sent it to me.
7mm Remington Magnum (7 Rem Mag) Barrel Length Versus Velocity | Rifleshooter.com
If that is the case loose the can and shoot it as it is. Make the most of the cartridge.
Those test results are all over the place?

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
Can't have your lunch and eat it too.

I have 2 RM's both Rem700's, one with 24 in factory XCR bbl, the other a Trueflite 26in UM barrel. Still doing load development to find optimum sweet spot for both but so far I'm getting around 3020 - 3050 fps with both running 162 Amax's w 2217. About to start playing with RL25 and 2225 .
Look you wanna cut it, so cut it, but don't put it over a chrono or you will find its now just a poo70 with more noise
Chopped my sako 7mmrem down to 23 inch, 2950 fps with 2225 and 162.

my Sendero is 26" from the muzzle to the vent hole
Ha Gibo - I had to laugh... Not at you... but definitely with you...
This is exactly what I went through with my 7RM with a Hardy gen 4 on the end. I actually just said to myself its better to get a cheaper bush rifle for the close country stuff rather than navigate through the bush with the broom handle on my back and save the big girls ability for the open tops or South island shooting
Went for a Ruger American Ranch in 300 Blackout as I wanted a shorter 16 inch barrel with good energy and useful pills out to 200. Already having a 223 I thought it would be similar kit powder etc and cartridge cases would be re-used from shooting that. In the end its not you almost need to treat it as its own set up and I have designated cases for this calibre.
It also has let me play with some cool subsonic rounds including the LeHigh projectiles and some cool 125 and 168gr Nosler rounds shot as supers for hunting....
Bottom line is for $800 - and the possibility of cutting down what is at optimum accuracy at distance 7RM to something that I have the nagging thought - I'll never again be 100% happy with, I'm very happy with buying the 300... I will re-barrel the 7RM sometime in the future to a heavier contour but it won't be getting shorter that's for sure...
More guns in the safe can't be a bad thing ... Can it???
Yeah ive got a chopped bush gun. Was just seeing what orhers reckon. I wouldnt go below 24" so therefore cant see any point hacking off 2" she will stay as is id say
I reckon some deer will lose an eye before I even close the bolt!!
How's the trigger? my experience with these is can be a bit heavy and creepy from the get go.... And you'll do well to invest in a good full bedding job too if you haven't already. That will really help your groups.
Can lend ya Nathan fosters book on accurizing if ya want (drop me a PM) think I'm gonna be busy over winter with reloading at the moment.
I've got a Lammington CDL in .223 and it is a absolute corker after those two things!!! although guys tell me its bust due to the bolt being on the wrong side.
