    7mm RM

    Hi all,

I have an sako 75 finnlite in 7mmRM. I have done some load development and found it loves 60gr Rl19 with a 168gr Berger vld hunter. The only problem is that I don't know my velocities as I have dropped my chrony and broken it. I have had it in to get repaired but its not reading correctly and its back in there and I doubt they will fix it. I have a sambar hunt in Alpine country coming up next weekend where there is a fair chance that the shots will be out to the 500m mark. I was just wondering if anyone had a rough idea what speeds might be? I'm thinking around that 2750-2850fps

I know its a stupid thread but I appreciate anyone's help

    Cheers Pat

Shoot it at 100m, shoot it at 300m, measure the drop, work it out from there

I recently had doubts about the speed my chrony said i was getting. I took some advice from a mate on here and shot at a couple of ranges, 345 and 485. 1st group on each i didnt dial at all and measured the drop in inches and then dialled what that drop converted to in moa at that range. Sweet as pie now. You cant argue with actual data, some chronies are out, some bc's are out.

1 Any particular reason you chose those ranges?
2 Will that give you enough to know what it will be a 550? 600? 100?
3 If the answer to (2) is yes, why does anyone ever bother with a chrony????????

Just set up the target then went back some, those two ranges just had a good spot to get a good prone position. Went further out on the gongs after I confirmed my settings in shooter and all was rosie

For a hijack the speeds I'm getting in my 7mmRemMag out of a Tikka 24.2"
    Norma brass (first fire)
162 amax to fit the mag
    CCI mag primer
And 2217 as per below loads

    70 grains
    2759
    2756
    2641

    71
    Error
    2838
    2804

    72
    2891
    2884
    2877

Do those speeds seem a bit low? The accuracy was 0.5" if I had not pulled 2 of the shots (break coming this week) worth changing primer or powders? Or should I not GAF about 100fps

At least a hundy shy on the 72 grain load. How much faith do you put in the chrony? If its accurate id validate at range

I wouldn't sweat 100 fps, as said above if it's accurate validate at range and get out using it

If you can find a 500 yd range check your 100yd zero and the add 20mils,9 moa and you will be close at 500 or use 15mil, 5 moa @ 400, or 9, 4 moa@ 300. If you have some decend size target backing that should put you on paper and get you or the way

Cheers guys. I have a farm I could do that on but I don't get down there all the time. I'll head to the range again to test after the break is installed as I would rather shoot .5 groups and be 100fps slower.

I guess what I was saying is you may not be slower at all (just the chrony talking), until you get to test at range and calibrate you wont know Should be close enough to get on the target at 3-400 though. My chrony is plus or minus 100
