Hodgdon have data online you can look at. Looks like Retumbo (AR2225) or H1000 (AR2217), or if nothing else H4831 (AR2213), should see you right.

    I reload for a mates one 162gr ELD-X 71.0gn of ADI 2217 gets 3045fps in a 23” barrel.
RL26 is suppose to be really good as well.

He has since told me he is going to buy rl22 and repurpose the amax load to eldms. Cheers for the responses, will have 2217 on standby!

RE22 is a poor choice. He will get good velocity but it is very temperature sensitive. I know from experience having loaded .25-06, .30-06 and .300 WM with it in the US. Temp ranges were -25 to +44 and velocity and POI shifts were very large with RE22. Yes, far less temp range here, but there are better powders than that.

In my 7 saum I used 59.8grs rl23 with 162eldx for 2990. Temp stable and faster speed than 2217 for me.

It may not be a surprize but RL26 works well, I never had any luck with the 162 gr ELDX in my rifle but it obviously works in others. I've had some good luck developing a load with RL26 / Berger 168 gr Classic Hunters at 3k feet/sec and happy with pressure. I have tried various other powders; Win 780, ADI2217, IMR/AR4350, RL23 with 160 - 168 gr projectiles but the current load produces superior velocities with sub moa accuracy at 400m. Depending on whether you have a full length action or a medium action you may find that you cannot achieve maximum loads with some powders due to OAL limitations reducing case capacity, RL 26 is favorable in that respect
Just going to take a look around the next bend...

Mates rifle was built on a long action rem 700 so can fit plenty of powder in I would say. How did you got with 2217?

I have checked and see that it was 2213SC, not 2217 that I tried in early days with NAB 160's but settled on Win 780 at that time. I don't think it's (Win 780) available anymore, if mag length isn't a problem length of throat is usually the next limitation for OAL and inherently case capacity.

I use to load one with Rl25 and berger 168s. 2950fps, not fast but single ragged holes

I am trying to steer him away from reloader powder and stick with adi for ease of supply, cost and temperature stability
