I’m using the 162grain Eldm at 2550 out of a 20 inch 7-08. That’s as fast as I can go and maintain really good accuracy, but it works extremely well. Anything that gets away is my fault, and I haven’t lost anything yet.

Hodgdon does list 42.5 grains of AR2206H with the 139 grain Hornady Interlock for 2,857 fps in a 24 inch barrel. In an 18 inch barrel the velocity would be 2,700 fps, still good for an 18 inch tube but nowhere near 2,900 fps.
I used AR2206H as it was in stock in my powder cupboard and it is one of my go to powders.
    Regards Grandpamac.
2206 is excellent with 120 grn bullets.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

    Loading 42g of 2206H behind a 139g SST for a mate's 19 inch Tikka. 2760 fps. Very accurate load.

One of the better 5 shot groups iv ever shot yet to be repeated though so I’m not holding my breath stranger things have happened, but initial results are promising. 150lrab WRE 42gns of 2208 alpha brass seated longish at 2,935 2610fps.

I recall an article in hunting magazine in the 80 it was titled" you've got to break bone, the case for #4 shot" funny how that same argument would've solved your penciling issue...possibly too well
