    7mm08 Short barrel

    New to reloading. Advice please?

Rifle = Remington 700 Ti 7mm08 18" shortened barrel (bush gun)
    Hunting round for deer 50m - 300m

I have not reloaded for this rifle but build up some items for reloading tomorrow.
    Powder is ADI Benchmark 2

Using once fired Remington Coreloc brass.

I have a choice of two projectiles on hand.

    1. Sierra Pro-hunter 140gr 1910
    https://www.sierrabullets.com/produc...er-140-gr-spt/

    2. Hornady Interlock 139gr 2825
    https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifl...erlock-btsp#!/

I am not planning on super accuracy and using a mates press so want to see from you experienced reloaders if you have any experience with this mix and which projectiles would you recommend starting out with?

I have been hunting 140 gr rem coreloc forever and been happy with this factory load, but as you know not readily available. I shoot maybe 20 - 30 rounds a year as rifle never moves its zero and mostly equates to a deer a bullet.

    Thanks

Those pills will work well for bush hunting, suggest you also consider Speer 130gn Hotcore

I'd pick the Sierras personally but the Hornady ones will be cheap and cheerful and probably do exactly what you want too. A good dose of AR2208 will see you right.

To build a bit a of confidence, it's well worth getting your mate to run you through the process and show you how he does things. Just beware that people tend to develop their own habits (good and bad) and pass them on, so make sure you have a good read of a reloading manual too.

I'm shooting a model 7 708 with 18 inch barrel suppressed with gunworks over barrel.
I use hornady 139 sst, 42 grn 2206h in Norma brass and I'm getting 2870fps. And I'm getting less than an inch at 100m and I sight for a 200m zero.

Boxton this is sort of what I am after too. I have the BM2 powder already so not going to go find another option right now like a few suggesting. I am torn between the two projectiles and also to see if any one has load data for this powder and projectiles etc?

I use both those projectiles in my 7mm-08 and 7x57R. Both work well on fallow, goats and pigs. I don’t have any experience on reds but suggest they will be just fine at the ranges and speeds you will look to. The Sierra May be a tough tougher in the jacket.

I use 2208 and 2209. A adi manual will give you a starting load for BM2 and your away.

I’m about to load some 139s for my 16in 7mm08. I have used lots in the 284 and have confidence using on anything in NZ.....in saying that I’ve heard the Pro Hunter is the go too when looking for accuracy and also holds together well. Flip a coin as you can’t go wrong.

The bullets are more expensive but I’ve used 140 gn Nosler ballistic tips exclusively for the last 12 years. 42.2 gns of 2208 out of an 18 “ barrel gets me 2680 FPS. GreAt load from 20 yds to 500 yds.

Nearly same as me. Except 42 grains of 2208 in an 18 inch barrel. Similar speed.

For my 2 cents worth, hunting partner uses the Hornady super performance 139SST ammo.
My though is that a lot of 7mm bullets are built around the faster 7mm's, ie Rem Mag, 280, 284, 7x61, 7x64 etc how many more have i missed.
Plus you have shortened the barrel down so your velocities are going to be low,

So for good bullet performance I would be looking to stay with the softer more frangible bullets. (unless targeting large pigs)
ie stay away from the heavy duty stuff, bonded core and some of the premium hunting stuff.
