Or you could possibly have it rechambered while still in the action to 280. That would probably tidy it up, the CF2 action is big enough for it, and a few more fps.
If its new barrel and new chamber then maybe the guy who did it needs to fix it?
Whoever chambered that barrel owes you a new barrel.
But you could still use it like it is. It may not be a big deal. If you dont get case head separations on the first firing (which I m betting you wont) there is not much wrong with it really. Once the brass has been once-fired just neck size the cases and reload for it like normal. You'll just have a 7x57 with a generous chamber. Like every .303 ever made.
@northdude I'm not much good with a handbag just like you really why do 708 when 7x57 was already invented!
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.
@Carlsen Highway year I hear what your saying I'll see what the final outcome is before I start calling for new barrels etc if I can re cut and go again then cool! I'll go see him tomorrow and talk it through also don't want to change for a different caliber as if gone out and brought brass reloading stuff and it would also mean the end of this thread
Come on @gundoc wake up

Thanks @Cordite

OK I have just caught up on this one. It is a crap chambering job and needs to be redone. The barrel needs to be shortened at least 6mm and the thread put forward the same amount then carefully rechambered, withdrawing and cleaning the reamer frequently with good cutting oil to prevent 'picking up'. It depends on the barrel profile whether or not this can be achieved. Some barrels (BSA, Parker Hale, etc.) only have a narrow shoulder in front of the receiver. A parallel reinforce of 12mm or more will be fine for setting back. Polishing the chamber will solve the extraction problems (probably) but will give an oversize chamber. The photos look like the chamber is fairly generous already.
@gundoc thanks for that. I went to see the my Smith on Saturday and spoke about this we are all on the same page. He doesn't do the barrel work though but he did say, that if this doesn't work then he would cough up for a new barrel.
But the communication is all good and that is the main thing
