    That is some serious trauma.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I can see why Amax + deer = Dogmeat! I had no idea they would be that destructive on a deer sized animal - looks like they would be literally like dynamite on goats too. Yip guess if your keen on eating what you shoot something a little less frangible would be best.

+1 on everything you say. I have just changed to barnes from a more explody projectile (Sierra Game King) and I can't understand why I didn't do it before. They have done studies in the states by xraying shot animals and the lead bullet fragments go further than the visible meat damage e.g. shot in the neck and fragments in the front leg. Lead makes you stupid and there is enough of that already.

I dont get to hung up on numbers normally but there maybe a hint in the lowish sectional density combined with a thin jacketed bullet . A 30 cal 168 at .253 compared to the more proven 6.5 and 7mm amax at .287.

At least the cup and core bullets give me an excuse for stupid.

You could be on to something there sneeze. As I said they seem more frangible than the few results I have seen of them in other cals.
I actually have a box of 178gr I was going to try thinking they might give me a bit of a wind advantage and going a bit slower be a bit more of a "do all" round............... but assuming 100fps drop with the gain in weight windage @ 600 is the same and realisticly that is max for me and this cal on game even the it has to be great conditions. So I havent even loaded one yet

I had exactly the same results with 208 amax launched at 2700 fps, and 270 cal 140 SST's.

I think there are amaxes that work, and ones that don't. I hope the 6.5 and 7mm ones work ok, got heaps of them!

My 7mmRM AMax 2964fps only left a small 50mm hole on a 200yrd spiker. dropped him on the spot.
