    Anyone loading for the .243

Anyone loading .243 that would be keen to swap/trade some loads for me to try around the 80grain mark
I have a new box of fusion 95grain to swap
My rifle T3 if that makes any differance
Have only fired 80grain Federal and 95grian Hornaday at this stage
Goats and paper only at this stage

You would be better looking for someone to develop a load for your rifle as this is the advantage of reloading. Cost savings are minimal really.

Moonhunt I load for the .243
Have some safe loads using 85gn HPBTs if you want to try. They seem to do the business for me at the mo.
There's some 100gn projectiles in the cupboard too you you want to try something else.
Think there's 1/2 a pack of federal 85gns here too come to think of it.

I should be doing it for myself, slowly collecting some gear... i dont want anyone going out of there way to do that, just keen to send a few reloads into some paper to see how they compare to factory ammo, but if thats a bit hit n miss i should just try some other factory stuff until im set
Yet to try some 55grain Federal B Tip i just picked up

Thats a kind offer thankyou, im a total beginer really when it comes to shooting and reloading, i have made do with a single shot 12ga a couple of hand me down .22s and an old .303 open sight for the last 22years, so kind of consider this my first rifle
Seating depth has gone way over my head... as in tuning factory ammo or finding the best for my rifle with the hand loads?

sorry to butt in your thread moonhunt but im also about to start re loads for my 243 and my reasons are not cost but to get a pill going as fast and flat but can still(with a well placed shot) bring a animal down as possible. My questions are, realistic distance to expect before the pill losses torque? I know its only a 5.56mm round but hey we used to hit running targets from 300m in the army so the round has to have some potential right?.Im firing rem core lok 100gr dont know what the twist is for my winchester710 yet but will be finding out and hopefully i can get to this wellington re load workshop if it takes off.

Go hard mate, this can be a 243 thread for all. I know nothing so anything we can pick up would be good. What i am picking up though is the 80 grain or around there seems to do/go better than the heavy pills
    Have you read this...

I am in the same boat (243) wanting to gert into reloading because I reckon it'll be fun and give me another geek hobby to settle the nerves on days that I can't go shooting.

Have a read of that link Dougie, some good info there and gives an understanding of what we are all after.

The 87gn hornady and the 85gn sierra are both popular in NZ and are cost efficient to load. If you are looking for distance then the heavier ones will have better ballistics but I'm more of a short range person.

I've heard from a few people that the humble 243 is the most difficult round to reload for?
and then theres the question of twist rates,is it a varminter or a deer slayer
