Thread: Anyone out there shooting 6.5x55 suppressed ???

You fellas who suppressed your 6.5x55's, did you go can or overbarrel ? got a 6.5x55 and trying to decide how much to chop and can or overbarrel . Its a 24 inch and was thinking 20 inch would be ok ?.A mate said 18 and can ,but he knows even less about this than I do.

I started with an overbarrel the went to an A-Tec can, never have regretted the change.
Did not shorten 22.Something inch barrel.
I shoot open country so am not concerned about length to much.

if you reload.... you can go under 20" and make up most of the difference with powder choice change... if you don't stick, to 18" plus..... i prefer overbarrel suppressors, 4" forward 5" back for that setup... gunworks 41mm spartan in that configuration would be good...

I run an 18" barrel with 5" forward and 4 back, but I reload...

You could run a 16" barrel if you know what you are doing (and you reload) with a suppressor, but frankly most 6.5x55 are in long actions and you are not optimising shortness to use a longer action.... better with a 308/708 for a dedicated bush pig setup...

You will have a useful all purpose rifle in 20" with the above type setup...

Similar to the other guys, i use a 20" barrel with DPT over barrel. I get about ~2680 with the 143gr ELDx. Won't go back to un-suppressed.

My Tikka has a 22.5 " barrel which I left alone and added a Hardy over barrel about 30mm forward I think. I reload and get 2800 with 129s. It's the only centrefire I've ever had so can't really compare for length but I spend a lot of time in thick bush and it's really not so bad. I mean if it's tight it's tight, right? It's quiet easy to shoot and super accurate especially now I'm keeping the barrel cleaner! I would never go back to unsuppressed just like the other guys have said.
