Anyone load AR2208 and AMAX? is 45gr a hot load? Its under max and i get no pressure but its accurate.

It might be a compressed load depending on your internal brass capacity and seating depth according to the ADI guide.
It's the most accurate powder charge you have, why go higher?

    My std 308 load is , 45gr 2208 , CCI BR2 primers & 175gr SMK in Lapua brass , gets me 2665-2700fps , 24-26 inche barrel , never had a problem with it .
Seems accurate in most of my 308 rifles so far .
You could easily use this with say a 178gr Amax bullet .

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

A mate of mine is playing with a 178 amax in his right now. I just run some numbers thru Quickload this morning for him.

46g of 2208 would appear near max pressure, that was using an overall length of 2.95"

    Start lower of course.

My advice having been there and done that with the 168 out of a 308 is use the 178 instead.

The 168 will work great +300y on deer but so will the 178 with less windage and the 178 will work reliably at less than 300y were the 168 will not.

Anyways I was running 47gr 2208 fed magnum primers lapua brass 75mm OAL for 2750fps out of a 22" barrel.

This was a warm load work up!

I still recommend the 178 or perhaps the eldx I have not tried yet over the 168 unless all shots on deer sized game are over 300y

And also why develop a load with the amax? Hasent it been discontinued and replaced by the eldm and eldx?

Good data, I said amax, but I believe @VTR is using 178 eldx.

Why the magnum primers, thinking of the same 178gr in the 30 06.
Is it because of the smaller case and larger bullet, better ignition?
    cheers.

More velocity for a given powder charge
