Thread: Best brass - Norma / Lapua

I know this depends on may variables but who makes the best brass outta the these two ?

I've always used Norma with ( mostly ) no problems & both are similarly priced is there any real difference in the real "home loader" world with standard cartridge's ?



PS - Most of my Norma brass has been bent into some wildcat monster

I was much the same always used Norma never had problems with it still love it I just seem to be able to squeeze a little more performance and a few more firings out of lapua and adg. To be 100% honest I loose most my brass befor I ever flog it out anyway .

Out of the two, shoot what you want. Both will yeild good results. I used to be norma through and through but now i shoot cartridges they dont manufacturer, so ive gone lapua, starline and hornady.

Have always used norma as lapua didn't manufacturer some of the calibers I've owned, currently I could use either but see no reason to switch as norma still yields good results.
Not ragging on lapua I'm sure it's every bit as good.

The last 2 lots of Norma brass I brought 7mm rem mag and .270 the primer pockets were too shallow and had to be recut otherwise when the primer was seated I couldn't chamber them
I've never had a problem with Laupa bloody good brass.

Both are good. Some have suggested that Norma is a softer brass and Lapua handles pressure better and is also more consistent between cases. My experience 22-250 AI. I would go with Lapua if I had the choice.

I use both, I can't say if one is better than the other, but I have no complaints about either.

Are we talking .308 or 25-06?

I don't know why norma is even on the poll list.

Norma used to be the primo brass back before Lapua and the others came on the scene. Maybe back then the others were just so bad. Nowadays I'm not so sure. My own experience with for example 6.5/284 necked up to 284 only lasting 3-4 firings before primer pockets gave up versus Lapua which lasts many more loadings. Weight variation on the Norma was also greater than the Lapua.

Personally have found no difference between Peterson and Lapua in 308W. Both have similar SD for weight variation. Both have similar neck thickness quality. Prefer the Lapua though as it has more powder capacity. No feeling yet for the life of Peterson.

No experience with ADG.

Peterson should have been on the poll.

And of course nowadays it's much more "in"" to say you use Peterson or ADG

Interesting I had the same problem with a batch of my Norma 7mm RM brass..

On that batch the priming lever arm on my press wouldn't seat them properly however I managed to get them (just) by using my mates handheld tool with a bit of horse power behind it.

Great case life and neck tension and as such Norma is still my main go to.

Define "best"

I have used both in 6.5/284 necked up to 30cal and the lapua could handle more pressure than the norma but I did get a few split necks with the lapua.

Both good I recon.

Interesting comments on the Norma, my last batch of 22-250 brass had primer pockets that need quite a bit of work in the depth department as well and a fair amount of force to seat the primers. Thought it was just me being unlucky…
