Best factory 44 magnum for deer

Hi team, looking at available factory ammo before a trip to wellington. Is the Hornady FTX all it's cracked up to be as far as getting the most range out of the 44? Running a 16" rossi lever action.

It’s not too bad, certainly faster than other 240 grain factory loadings.
My 16” has punched well above with regards to deer within 60m. It did take two stags one afternoon at over 100m though which I was very impressed with.

That sounds about right. Effective on the stags? Was it dropping much at 100?

If you're not reloading and want to try some/get into it give me a yell. I'm in NP. I load 44mag.

I reload and use the hornady 240g xtp ,used to use it in factory loads as well,it kills well above the specs people say you need to kill deer ,I bush hunt though and longest shot would be 60m.

What sights are you running on the Rossi ?100 m is getting out there as far as the factory setup goes,I use a red dot on mine and have a set of peep sights as well as backup and can only get about 4moa at 100 m .

Got an aimpoint 2 moa red dot on it. Won't be taking long shots but want to make sure I can get the most out of it. 100m would be about the limit I think

I was as impressed with my shooting that afternoon as I was with the undeniable ability of the 44 magnum.
I’ve shot a lot of animals with my .44 and although most have been @<10 m, that afternoon my self modified open sites were what was required.

    240 XTPs
I did a lot of testing and use 10 years ago and these are exceptional both as subs and supers

Don't bother with the 300 XTPs as they were nowhere near as effective super sonic or sub sonic.

If you like 240gn and like plinking try the HRBC powder coated flat points from Delta Mike.

    https://www.deltamike.co.nz/product/...0-projectiles/

$250 for 800. Being pure lead they are also a very useful hunting projectile. The flat point will cut a decent wound channel and the lead will deform enough to mushroom while also penetrating. The powder coating will allow them to be driven as high as 1800fps, if you care to..my preference is in the1400-1600fps range. With care you can also cup the point for greater expansion. In these days of high cost they are an excellent option and are a very uniformly made product.

Disclaimer: I am a customer of Delta Mike, no other axe to grind.
