    Black Powder

    Hi,

Is Swiss black powder available in NZ?

I think I read that there is an NZ manufacturer of BP also. Does anyone know how it compares to Swiss if its more readily available?

    Cheers

Holy Smoke BP is nz made
    Very good powder
    Martin also has Swiss available
But 1 pound of Swiss is the same price as 1 kg of HolySmoke

He now has a granulation that is claimed to match the swiss which is slightly more expensive than his std 2 and 3f powders

    Thanks fellas.

I'm hoping next year to get over to hunt chamois, been wanting to for a decade now. Only really hunt with flintlocks these days so I just need enough 2F and 4F for a hunt. a pound or a kilo doesn't make much difference. Both far more than I need but what I'll probably have to suck up and do.

If I can get swiss it saves me having to play around with new loads.

@Bavarian_Hunter well you will be flying into Christchurch then
You can come see me and have all the 1 1/2, 2, 3 and 4FG you would ever need.

You can have a play with the flavour and charge weights to get yourself on the sights

I've shot a chamois and tahr with muzzleloader
But used my 50 cal percussion

    Also reds and pigs.
Percussion in the alps is enough of a challenge for me.

@akaroa1 thank you very much for the offer sir.

I hunt with a horn and shot pouch and use a volumetric powder measure. Out to 120 yards my 54 longrifle shoots better than I can using 100gn Swiss 2F and a pillow ticking patched .535 ball.

I still have one percussion rifle left but like my centrefires it's been gathering dust the past few years.

    Hs is different to swiss
Swiss explodes and burns in the 1st 2 or 3 inches the bullet or ball rides the sockwave up the bore
Holy smoke from my experience burns all the way up the bore

Two Different powders both very good powders

In the South Island you will be restricted as to what you can get
The guy who makes holy smoke also is the importer of swiss powders basically the only wholesaler of black powder in new Zealand
And he is in the north island it is very difficult to ship black powder to the South Island so as a consequence very little of it makes it over there so you’ll have to use what you can find or borrow you won’t be able to be too picky

If anyone is travelling south and going through Ngaruawahia, call Marty and see if he wants any taken across Cooks straight.
Him and a lot of black powder shooters in the south island will be greatful for the offer.
    Overkill is still dead.
