Yep. I don't decap with my sizing dies so I adjust the expander button (in dies where i use the expander button still) up as high as possible in the die.

Ive done it and it worked

I've got both. If only doing a couple I use the inertia puller. More than a couple, I get the collet puller out.
The collet puller is quicker once you're underway.

@NRT i love my rcbs collet puller. it will last forever. definitely recommend it. I think the hammer style pullers can break. i pulled some really old 260 rounds and it did it really well. The case is still unright so you can tip the powder out when you want in a controlled mannor.

The hammer is the cheapest Specialist tool
It’s an Inertia method the round is clamped in a collet inside the hammer and you smack the hammer on something the hammer stops and because the projectile is heavy it keeps moving down and after a couple of hits fall’s out it doesn’t damage the projectile so that can be reloaded it’s Universal for caliber aswell down side is it can be quite an effort if you have a lot of rounds to do
It’s all good for 1 or 2 or even a group of 5



The collet method is the best way but also a much more expensive tool
Once you have the tool (a die that fits in your press)
The round is fed into the die the collet grabs hold of the projectile and pulls it out
Alot quicker and less effort than the hammer
Down side is the collets that fit inside the die are Calibre specific so you need a collet for each caliber you load for
The die itself is universal)

The simplest method is to put the round in the press rase the ram and grab the projectile with a pair of vice grips
Lower the ram the grips will bottom out on the top of the press and pull the bullet
The down side is you lose the projectile gets damaged
Not the end of the world for one or two rounds but if you have a major issue and need to pull a few it gets pricey at $1 a bullet

Plus side us you probably have a pair of grips lying arround

hammer works fine...at a pinch YOU CAN go even more simple with care....place round in press shellholder and pop it up through top of press,gently grab projectile with vicegrips flat with top of press frame and move ram to pull case downwards...I did quite a number this way before got a inertia hammer thingy....didnt damage projectiles when care was taken...mightnt be so good with supersoft amax but worth a crack if only half dozen to do...better than leaving too hot loads assembled.

Collet is the better long term solution, hammer works but gets old fast.

With the inertia puller I just use the shellholder for the catridge concerned and discard the "necklace" thingee.
Jam an ear plug down the bottom to protect bullet tips.

With a collet puller you need to have collets for each calibre.

If you want to resize them without decaping just pull the decaping pin out of the die (can’t be done with lee dies as the decaping pin and expander ball is one peice)
They need to be sized after pulling as others have said you neck Tension will be all over the place
Accuracy will be all over the place as a result
On top of this if you do find a good load with the pulled brass you can’t repeat it as you dies will provide different neck tension when sized


If it were me talking from my 16 years loading experience
I would pull the rounds
Empty them as much as possible
Decap them ether with a full length die or universal de cap die (my choice i size after cleaning )
Clean the brass ultrasonic or tumble

Then you are back to square one ready to load from scratch that way you can Guarantee no power left or a fuck up with your swag (Scientific wild ass geuss) as to how much powder is still in the case if you Waigh the kernels of powder they are not consistent in waight so simply counting how meny is not really a good option (if you’re looking for Precision probably wouldn’t make enough Difference to be a danger) id still avoid it though

Yes you loose the primer but shit happens btw in 16 years of reloading I have decaped 100’s of not 1000’s of live primers
Never had one go off touch wood always wear safety glasses and ear muffs just in case as those suckers are actually pretty noisy when they go off (set a few off on Purpose over the years
