This is why I went with an 85 based action as much as I loved my a7 WSM as a hand loader it is limited by the mag length, sure I could single feed it but that kinda defeats the purpose at least in a hunting rifle IMO

Yea also using the 180 Berger’s in a 9.5 twist and they shoot well.. single feed them and have a spook shoot load in the mag. As much as I didn’t like the idea of this to begin with Ive found it all good

I think I'm gonna try 162gn ELDM first as per @stug advice however I'm definitely gonna give the 180s a burn at some stage

I agree with you there @dannyb not practical at all for a hunting rifle to single feed, sooo I made a little mod to my perfectly good rifle and now I can seat the 175s out to 3.45 and mag feed them. Name: IMG20200507053238.jpg

Big cheers to @stug for helping me measure the distance to the lands on my Fierce.
Came up at 2.726" so will load up a ladder at 2.706" and go from there, still loads of room left in the mag at that length so will be playing with the 180gns for sure at some stage.
Will get my ladder loaded up tomorrow and see how she likes em.

So made up a dummy round just to see how it compared to the factory sako rounds.
The pics will tell the story.
Sako rounds are 150gn barnes ttsx (blue tips)
My dummy round is a 162gn eldm (red tips)
Plenty room in the mag as you can see, I'll get a ladder loaded tomorrow and see what it does.

My personal preference for a long range hunting rig is to be able to mag feed as I can rack the bolt faster than I can single feed if a follow up is required.
Nothing wrong with single shot hunting rifles imo

71-72gr of 2217 will give 2950-3050fps depending on barrel
I was slugging 180 bergers at 3060 in a smaller case with 69 gn

2225 always worked well for me in 7rm with the 162s 73gn fed 215 . id try 168 vld if i came into another rem mag and melt the eldms down for sinkers

plenty of time to play with loads of different pills, I'm not sure if that is a bonus or pit fall of going to 7mm from 270 with the 270 you had maybe 3 or 4 really nice high BC pills that were good for hunting at extended ranges and if you were lucky 1 or 2 might shoot well in your rifle......in the 7mm rem mag there seems to be endless choices
at the moment I just want to get a nice accurate hunting load, then I will play with some of the other offerings.

Good to see im not the only nocturnal member. Yip to right i always shot the amax loved them then i used the edx when i came to the end of my amax shot a few lost as many then 175eldx shot a few lost a couple then sighting in the new 6.5 using the eldm it came with found one of the jackets on the face of the beer box . The short of it is I and Im only speaking for me I no lots of others seem to have better luck . Hate them red tipped little buggers and will be dammed if i ever buy another box again. The Bergers are pricy but my round counts bugger all once its tuned so not to much of a worry I shot a goat at 400 the other day with a 130 vld and was well happy with the hole . Another mate of mine down souths found the eldm a real meat fucker to . So for me if my trophie stags going to run a k and die or my meat animals meats ruined their not for me. Youll have fun with a RM im yet to find a fussy one and man they kill dead over all rangers

A fair point @MSL I'm sure plenty of people have shot more animals than I have, with single shot rifles. I guess it depends on what you're hunting and how you're hunting it. If a rifle has a magazine it's definitely nice to be able to use it
